It's been a few months since my last post now, but this post is actually about an assignment I have for school that's due at the end of the semester (beginning of May). The assignment is about doing a Random Act of Kindness. Obviously from my video that concept is nothing new to me. This something has to be significant, it can't just be putting a dollar in a random pop machine so that a person gets a free pop (even though that is nice). I've decided to take this assignment, and put my own little twist to it.
My idea for my Random Act of Kindness is Inspiration. So I'm saying my act of kindness is going to be to inspire people to do an act of kindness (through this post, and that video). I want reading this post to leave you with the feeling of inspiration. I want this feeling to make you just want to get up and change the world (almost literally).
While brainstorming ideas for my random act of kindness we had been watching a movie in class called, I Am. Some of you may have seen it before, and for others I would definitely recommend it. This is the movie trailer for it because it definitely gives you a better idea of what it's all about more than me trying to tell you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAwIzT8cBSA. After watching this film, I was just on a cloud for the rest of the day. I was happy all day, and was extra nice to everyone I met. It made me remember why I'm doing what I'm doing. I am going to be Social Worker so I can change peoples lives. But this is something we can do each and everyday. This film made me want to go out and feed all the hungry of the world, give all the money I had to an organization, and give homes to the homeless. This film truly inspired me, and made me a better person, even if just for that one day. Inspiration can truly be an act of kindness. We are not in this world alone, we are all here together, and ultimately, we are all the same. We are just people trying to find our purpose in this world, and just be happy.
We have no idea the impact a small act of kindness can have on someone. We have no idea how someones day is going right when we see them. We don't know what's going on in their head, what their worries are, what trial they are going through. Why not try to make everyones journeys a little easier. In a world full of people it can be very easy to feel like you're alone. A small act of kindness can reassure someone that they are not alone, and can give them the push they need to keep going in their day. In the busy world we live in it can be very easy to get caught up in the hussle, and bussle of our own lives. We often forget that it's not just us living here. Not only can a small act of kindness affect the person it's towards, but it can also make you feel good knowing that you helped someone out. It's a good perspective to have to "give" instead of trying "get" all the time.
So here's where you come in. I would love for each and every person that reads this post to attempt a random act of kindess. Make it significant. Really put your heart into it, and be creative. Then what I need you to do is give me feedback on what you did. You can message me on facebook, comment on this post, email me (JHerman10@winona.edu), or if you know me personally just give me a call or text. In your message explain why you were inspired to pursue a random act of kindness, what you did, who you did it to, and if possible how the person was personally affected by it. I would love to know if I actually gave you inspiration to do an act to better the life of another individual. My purpose in life is to better the lives of others, which is exactly what I'm going to do with my career, and if I could inspire others to want to help someone else, that would just be amazing. Thank you to anyone who participates in this. I'm super excited to see what comes from this. Now go out there and make someones day brighter, lessens someones burdens, or even change a life. You never know what could come from your generosity...you could be saving a life.

"No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves." ~ Amelia Earhart
